Access Statement For Old Lyme Guest House

Introduction
The Old Lyme Guest House is a 300 year old building, and is “Grade 2 Listed”. Whilst this means that our visitors will experience a stay in a unique building, unaltered by time, it also means that, sadly, the building is not always suitable for people with very limited mobility – and by law, we are unable to make alterations to change this. Our Access Statement aims to describe the Old Lyme honestly, to ensure that all our guests will be happy and comfortable during their stay with us.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

On arrival into Lyme Regis, the Old Lyme Guest House is easily located -  at the bottom of Broad Street ( our main shopping “High Street”) the road continues round to a set of traffic lights – Coombe street is the small lane to the left. Follow Coombe Street a couple of hundred metres, and you’ll find us on the right hand side.

If you are driving, pull up outside the guest house, and ring our doorbell – we will come out and offload your bags for you, and provide you with the parking pass for the Hill Road ( Woodmead Halls) car park.

The car park is about 200 metres up the road. There is a small hill from the bottom of Coombe Street to the Car Park, but apart from this, the shops, bars and restaurants are on a level walk from us. We have many regular customers who stay with us for this reason.

Main Entrance & Reception

There are no steps to negotiate to gain entrance to our building – our front door opens directly onto the street.

Public Areas - General

We have a guest lounge on the ground floor, level with the entrance hall, and a breakfast room, which has a small step down into it.

Public Areas - WC

We have no separate public WC downstairs – all toilet facilities are those private to each individual room, all of which are upstairs.

Bedrooms

All our bedrooms are on either the 1st or 2nd floor of the building, and are accessed by 1 or 2 flights of quite narrow stairs. We always carry our guests’ luggage to their rooms for them, and have many elderly guests who come back to us regularly, so most people can manage the stairs, but if you are concerned about accessibility for any member of your party, or would like to specify a room on the 1st floor rather then the 2nd, please mention this when you book, and we will be happy to chat to you about your requirements, to ensure that our accommodation is suitable.

Other Information

Our breakfast menu is available in Braille – please ask Paul at breakfast time if you would like to use a Braille menu.

Also, if any of your party is hearing-impaired, and uses lip-reading, please let us know at the time of booking – Paul will then ensure he faces this person at breakfast time when asking for food and drinks orders etc.

If you have any other special requirements, or dietary needs, please let us know at the time of booking – we usually take bookings by telephone, so that we can discuss anything you might need, and ensure that you have the most comfortable and enjoyable stay with us. We believe that honesty is the best policy – so if we are unable to meet your needs we will let you know, and try to recommend alternative accommodation based on our local knowledge.

Medication

If any of your party are taking medication which requires refrigeration, we are happy to store such items in our own fridge – but please liase with us as to when the medication will be needed in case we need to go out! Alternatively, we can provide a cool bag with ice packs for you to keep in your room.
